Dark Chocolate Caramel Cream Puffs

Oooooh I'm excited about this one. Serve these at your next dinner party as an appetizer or little dessert and everyone will be going 'Wow you MADE these?!"

For whatever reason, people are super impressed with a homemade cream puff a.k.a. Pâte à Choux but it's actually SO easy to make. I've used good ol' Martha Stewart's recipe at least 10 times and they turn out perfect every time.

You can fill yours with whatever you like - I used some coconut whipped cream and caramel sauce layered in between each one. I highly recommend dunking yours in chocolate because...chocolate + caramel + whipped cream = the best combo on earth. Ready to get baking? Here you go!

Ingredients

Cream Puffs Recipe from Martha Stewart 1/2 cup butter (I used salted butter for everything - go ahead, shame me) 1 tsp sugar 1 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 tsp salt 5 eggs

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees f In a medium sized saucepan, melt together butter, sugar, and salt on medium heat. Once melted, add the flour. Using a wooden spoon, mix together on heat until dough comes together and a film begins to stick to the bottom of the pan. Remove from head and slowly add 4 of the 5 eggs, one at a time, and continue mixing until smooth and all 4 eggs are incorporated. In a separate bowl, ddd 1 Tbsp of water to the remaining egg and mix together to create an egg wash. Using a piping bag fitted with a 5/8 inch circle tip. Add your Pâte à Choux and pipe 1 and 1/2 inch rounds onto your prepared pan pan. Bake for 30 minutes, or until cream puffs just begin to turn golden brown on the top. Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes, then move to a cooling rack. If you're feeling extra fancy, dunk your cooled cream puffs into a glass filled with around 1/2 of melted chocolate (I LOVE LiLy's chocolate chips). They are sugar-free, fair-trade certified, are all around great in baking. Finish it off with a crack of sea salt and allow the chocolate to harden, should take 10 minutes max. Cut the puffs in half, fill with whipped cream and drizzle a good amount of my Vegan Caramel sauce on the top. Finish it off by topping it with the other half of your cream puff. Enjoy!
